Our Winter Gathering was fun. The K-5 all had great performances and sang beautifully. The Chili Dinner and Bake Sale put on by our Francine Delany PTO went smoothly also. Thanks to all our students, teachers and of course Families who make our FD Community so wonderful.
The Second Grade along with K-5 practiced their Winter Gathering Music with Mr. Sean the day of our Winter Gathering. They sang “One Day” by Matisyahu as 5th Grade played their Orff instruments and then they sang “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. Great Jobs Friends!
The students rehearsed in the Arts Room by themselves and with their Duet class and then we had a Whole School Rehearsal for the entire group to get a feel of how it was going to be that evening at the actual Winter Gathering which was held at the Pillar in Downtown Asheville. The students are so excited.
In Music with Mr. Sean the students are preparing for our Winter Gathering. We are very excited for them to perform at the Winter Gathering which is happening this Thursday December 11 at the Pillar in downtown Asheville from 6-7 with a Chili dinner before the performance beginning at 5:15. The students have really enjoyed the process of getting ready. I hope we have fun and folks make it out. Great Work Students and Mr. Sean!
In Art we have been discussing the elements of Art and Design. In the elements for Art we’ve discussed Color, Shape, Line, Space and Texture. In Design we’ve only touched on a few but I let the students know when it is a design element. Some of which are the same as the elements of Art but for example randomness and tension were design elements included in this form project. The students used warm and cool colors on their sculptures and randomly cut a line through their sheet of paper before gluing it down to a base to gave it form. The students were very focused and created some beautiful sculptures. Way to go Friends!
In Session II we have to 8th Grade lead Electives. This is one of them. Poetry Elective is being Lead by 8th Grade Teacher Nicolai. He is a very wise and intense poet. The other students are learning a great deal about poetry from this Poetry Slam Champion. Thanks Nicolai and Great Job!
This is our Tae Kwon Do Elective. It is being taught by Master Tony Morris of Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do. The students who take this class are very engaged. They are learning the beginning concepts of Tae Kwon Do and understand how important focus, discipline and respect are in learing such an elegant Martial Art. Thanks for teaching us Master Morris!
In Movement with Giles K-2 learned a new game. They learned the Force game, based on the legendary powers of the Jedi from Star Wars. Giles used the force to move students around the room and make them jump up and down and wiggle all around. They also transformed from tiny boxes into full sized robots. What great imagnination. The students look and follow and learn to take turns. Thanks Giles!
CJ our Chinese Elective teacher keeps his group of eager students engaged. They have already learned so much in just 3 short Friday classes. CJ uses fun movement games to help students remember words and concepts in Chinese. Thanks CJ! You Rock!
In GreenWorks Environmental, teacher Christine helpls students learn about Green Concepts. They talk about the pollution that occurs now and how it happens and what are some actions we can take to help negate the consequences of pollution. At FD we take our environment very seriously. Thanks Christine for helping make this Elective a Reality.
They may not have had their broom sticks but the 3-5th grades played some GREAT Quidditch (the sport the wizards/witches played in the Harry Potter Books). Teacher Marty explains the rules and warms up our athletes. One person is the snitch and one person from each team is a chaser. The Chaser is ever vigilant awaiting the moment the snitch shows itself. All the while everyone else plays offense and defense hoping their teams chaser will capture the snitch to score bonus points. What an exciting game with soooo much going on. Everyone had a blast playing Quidditch.
Susan is teaching our 3-5th Grade group and partner dances. Students learned the Turkey Trot and other fun group dances designed to teach them to understand nonverbal movment cues to be a better dance partner and better group dancer. Soooo much Fun!
