In Greenworks Environmental 101 with Ms. Brown the students created an acronym of Greenworks to present for our Electives Fair. They learned about concepts like soil, energy, conservation, and responsibility to our environment. Thanks Greenworks and Ms. Brown.

Claymation Elective has begun filming of their animated features. We are very excited to share them at our Electives Fair comin up in three weeks.

Session II Electives

IMG_3664 In Session II we have to 8th Grade lead Electives.  This is one of them.  Poetry Elective is being Lead by 8th Grade Teacher Nicolai.  He is a very wise and intense poet.  The other students are learning a great deal about poetry from this Poetry Slam Champion.  Thanks Nicolai and Great Job!

IMG_3679   This is our Tae Kwon Do Elective. It is being taught by Master Tony Morris of Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do.  The students who take this class are very engaged.  They are learning the beginning concepts of Tae Kwon Do and understand how important focus, discipline and respect are in learing such an elegant Martial Art. Thanks for teaching us Master Morris!

CJ our Chinese Elective teacher keeps his group of eager students engaged. They have already learned so much in just 3 short Friday classes.  CJ uses fun movement games to help students remember words and concepts in Chinese. Thanks CJ! You Rock!

In GreenWorks Environmental, teacher Christine helpls students learn about Green Concepts. They talk about the pollution that occurs now and how it happens and what are some actions we can take to help negate the consequences of pollution.  At FD we take our environment very seriously.  Thanks Christine for helping make this Elective a Reality.

Session I Electives Fair was AWESOME!

IMG_3108 We had our Annual Student/Teacher/Parent Basketball Game… it was TOO close to call, great game though.Coach Craig was proud of his students team.  Everyone had a Great time.

IMG_3110 Then we moved inside and got to hear some disturbing info about some of the food we eat from our Food Detectives Elective. Teacher Marty and the students told us all kinds of stuff about processed food and what those weird ingredients are…. Be aware of all that you eat!..

IMG_3122 Then Teacher Julie of the Yoga elective helped students demonstrate some of their amazing stretches.  They also told us about the benefits of Yoga.  Sign me Up!

IMG_3155 Then Amy Dexter of Asheville Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do came by for our other Tae Kwon Do instructor  Elizabeth Goyer (who couldn’t make it this day) to demostrate all that the Tae Kwon Do Electives Students had learned in Ms. Goyer’s Class. Talk about power. These students were very impressive. Great Job!

Yoga with teacher Julie is SWEEET! We are learning about Flexibility and the benefits of Yoga.

In HipHop/Jazz/Tap/Fitness these Fresh Dancin Owls are boogeyin on Down.  Can’t wait to see what they’ve got for us this year at Our Electives Fair.  Thanks Teacher Andrea!

Richmond takes his Drawing Elective outside.  Students are learning the techniques and skills to be great Artists in Richmonds Drawing Elective.

Finally we have Basketball Elective.  Coach Craig is preparing his players for our Teacher/Student Basketball game.  Will they have the technique and skill to defeat their Amazing Super Athletic Teachers at this years Electives Fair?? They will if Coach Craig has anything to say about it.
